10 Years of Ample Hills

As we begin a new decade, we reflect back on all of our crazy creations, ideas, events, parties, collaborations, promotions and all the people that had a hand in making it happen.

In the past ten years we’ve made hundreds of original flavors, baked and chopped countless pans of Ooey Gooey Butter Cake, Brownies and Nonna D’s Oatmeal lace Cookies. We’ve scooped ice cream at festivals, street fairs, carousels and weddings. We’ve pedaled and churned custom flavors for birthday parties from 1 year to 100 year olds on our specially designed ice cream churning bicycles. We have created ice cream flavors for Star Wars, Mickey Mouse, Marvel, The New York TImes, Food & Wine, 20/20, The View, CBS This Morning, The New York Rangers, The Gilmore Girls and The Royal Wedding. We collaborated with some of our favorite brands including Baked By Melissa, Black Tap, Baked in Red Hook, Four & Twenty Blackbirds, One Girl Cookies and many others. We held bi-monthly Pints and Postcard events to support community organizations and causes we care deeply about including homelessness, gun violence, Gay youth etc… We researched and learned the histories of multiple neighborhoods to design shop specific flavors that honored the location of each scoop shop. We opened 17 scoop shops and kiosks in four different states. We opened a 15 thousand square foot factory in Red Hook Brooklyn on view to the public and that includes a museum dedicated to the way we make ice cream. We’ve initiated a summer loyalty program called Tour De Hills and a winter program called Tour De Chills where Ample fans travel to each shop and receive rewards and prestige for visiting all scoop shops in one day. We’ve awarded over 600 people the honor of becoming Hillionaires and Chilionairs to those folks who had the endurance to visit all our shops in one day. We’ve taught ice cream making classes where people learn to cook, create and churn their own flavor of ice cream. We’ve held adult ice cream socials where each person gets a chance to pedal and churn, eat pizza, play ice cream games and feel like a kid again. We opened our first scoop shop in Los Angeles and Brian and I took our kids on a cross country road trip churning ice cream across America. We hitched our ice cream churning bicycle to an RV and drove from Brooklyn to Los Angeles creating flavors that honored the various regions of the U.S. we visited. We collaborated with chocolate makers and bakers, candy makers and RV Park owners and made ice cream with the help of the local communities. Our kids Nonna Kai & Kaleo helped name the flavors and illustrate the flavor signs and we held ice cream socials scooping and introducing our ice cream to towns and neighborhoods from New York to California. We’ve been interviewed and featured in The New York Times, Forbes, Business Insider, CBS This Morning, The Today Show, GMA, The Food Network, Oprah and more. Brian and I have discussed the challenges of raising a business and raising a family as well as our dedication to telling stories and making playful, whimsical flavors that connect us to the kids we used to be. We have shipped ice cream to numerous Ample fans across the country and have traveled into the hearts and freezers of such illustrious celebrities as Bob Iger, Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Jimmy Kimmel, Quest Love and Ellie Kemper. Oprah even called our Vanderbilt shop to profess her love for our Salted Crack’d Caramel and Ooey Gooey Butter Cake.

We’re excited to dive into this new decade, the rip-roaring 20’s with the same excitement, creativity, playfulness and heart we began with. We look forward to taking you all with us on our continued Ample journey. Happy New Year! Happy New Decade!
