This story was made with the help of my mother, who was the main actor in the story. I was in charge of directing, writing the script, filming and editing this story.
A Little Star is a personal story, talking about family and how grief can make us appreciate the little things in life. It is made in memory of my sister brooke, who i lost at a young age. I wanted to reflect on how losing a loved one can make life somewhat bittersweet, but it definitely makes us more grateful for what we do have.
I wanted to focus on the voiceover in this film, to show it from the more personal perspective of my mum. I liked focusing on the different kinds of shots, and enjoyed making different choices in lighting and camera placement
If i had more time to work on this film i would try to get my sisters involved and show their close relationships with my mum, to make the ending more heartbreaking.
This relates to the theme of “bright” as i like to think that the kids are the brightest parts of a family, and having lost a sister i know that the brightest stars are the ones that burn out the fastest
