My work is named “Monster”. It tells stories about an ordinary small family which seems to be warm, but actually the mother and daughter are in the context of domestic violence by the husband all the time. Every day before the husband comes home from work and drinking, the mother and daughter have a happy and warm time together. At the moment when the husband comes back drunk, the world immediately turns upside down like a monster coming and everything is out of order. The mother and daughter flee in any path they can. The tent for playtime becomes the “shelter”. And the source of all the fear and breakdown comes from the one who is supposed to be their closest at home. I always believe that movie can warn and enlighten people. Inspired by this idea, I have created this work. Domestic violence has always existed but was not taken seriously. There is an exhibition from Istanbul which shocks me the most. In it, the heels of 440 women dead from domestic violence are hung in a building. This scene is breathtaking. It also triggers my inspiration of creating a short film about the harm of domestic violence with the hope to change the people’s perspective in the world. At least I hope that the people who watch my short film will have some feelings.
